David: An Oratorio (Vocal Score) - Specially Published for the Duke of Edinburgh, Essex, E. C.
3 Essex, E. C. David: An Oratorio (Vocal Score) - Specially Published for the Duke of Edinburgh
London, England Hodge & Essex 1888 No ISBN hHardcover (Full Leather) Very Good Condition No Dust Jacket 4mo - over 9 3/4" - 12" tall
This is an incredibly special edition of this vocal score. An inscription on a page following the title page says "Dedicated By Special Permission to His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh - March 1888". It is bound in a Royal binding, which consists of navy blue leather and gilt lettering and decorations. The front cover consists of the Duke's Royal Monogram, his initials AEA (Prince Alfred Ernest Albert, second son of Queen Victoria) underneath his coronet. This coronet represents that of a younger son of the monarch, and would be replaced 5 years later (in 1893) when he became the ruling prince of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Truly an incredible example of a book published specifically for one of the Royal Family. Size: 4mo - over 9 3/4" - 12" tall. 200 pp. Pages are tight and clean. Slight foxing front/rear pages, but body of book mostly clean and unfoxed. All edges gilt - bright, rich condition. Bumped and rubbed. Cover is protected in mylar cover. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 3-5 pounds. Category: Antiquarian & Rare; Royalty; Pictures of this item not already displayed here available upon request. Inventory No: 001183. De Gli Anfiteatri E Singolarmente Del Veronese Libri Due Ne' Quali e fi Tratta Quanto Appartiene all'Ifloria, e Quanto All'Architettura, Maffei, Scipione
4 Maffei, Scipione De Gli Anfiteatri E Singolarmente Del Veronese Libri Due Ne' Quali e fi Tratta Quanto Appartiene all'Ifloria, e Quanto All'Architettura
Verona, Italy Alberto Tumermani 1728 No ISBN Softcover Good Condition 8mo - over 7 3/4" - 9 3/4" tall
This is a very special old book with a lot of charm, and is a study on the Verona Amphitheater. It has several illustrations, many of which fold out. The foldouts are in very good condition. The pages are clean and a bit wavy, and the binding is loose. I'm not totally sure whether the cover is a type of paper, cloth, or animal skin (although my bet is a type of hard paper). There are some flakes and the corners are rounded, but it is in quite good condition for its age. The title is handwritten on the spine, and part of it is worn to the point that you can't quite make out a couple of letters. Page edges are uncut. There is an old signature (appears to be a quill signature) at the bottom of the title page that seems to be from an early owner. Text entirely in Italian. Size: 8mo - over 7 3/4" - 9 3/4" tall. 348 pp. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 1 - 2 pounds. Category: Antiquarian & Rare; Non-English Language::Italian; Pictures of this item not already displayed here available upon request. Inventory No: 001017. Paperback

20 Rudler, F.W.; Chisholm, George G; Ramsay, Andrew C. (Editor) Stanford's Compendium of Geography and Travel - Europe (With Ethnological Appendix By A.H. Keane)
London Edward Stanford 1885 No ISBN First Edition Hardcover Very Good No Dust Jacket 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall
617pp; A classic, detailed study of Europe as it was more than 120 years ago; Beautiful green boards with gilt and black lettering and decorations; Some bumping and rubbing, but the cover is actually in very good condition for its age; Pages are yellowed, but are tight and clean, other than the owner's name on the title page; More than half of the pages are unopened, including a big majority of those after page 105; There are some pages that were badly opened, which has resulted in some tears and chips, but this is only on a few pages; The title page has a significant tear in the upper left corner, but nothing is missing; Some pages are slightly wrinkled as well; There is a black stain on the bottom edge that measures about 2" x 1/2". It carries onto the very bottom of some pages, but just barely. It never comes close to reaching the text; There is a red "75" written on the front inside cover, which is black; Overall, this is a very well preserved copy of a scarce book, and even more rare because of the large number of unopened pages; Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall.
